Food Addictions

Gosh, this Book Bucket Challange on Facebook is totally ruining my hobby priorities. I get reminded of books I wanted to read since ages ago everywhere I look. How am I supposed to live with this urge to read when I actually planned to focus a little more on filmmaking, wanting to complete my very first short film in the near future? I can see it already, I'm gonna ditch my film project very soon. :((

Gosh I hate this. I mean, I have absolutely no control over my creativity surges. When I feel like reading more than filmmaking,  my cinematographic whim will automatically fade away so fast I won't be able to do anything about it. And when there's no whim, there's no creativity. This just sucks! :(

Yeah, yeah, I know, Ebola is spreading in Africa and Ukrainians in the East can't sleep at night over the sounds of gunshots. I'm in no place to complain over such banal things. So, moving on... :(

I have a new food addiction. It's pizza. (Not much of a better topic, is it?)

Anyway, I realized that I tend to have temporary obsessions with many different kinds of edible... stuff. And 'temporary' comprises of the timespan from weeks to months to years. Let me just list them already.

I had a serious Nutella addiction for over a year, which took a lot of struggling on my part to get clean. I did a cold turkey withdrawal for a whole year, suffering from so many incurable depression phases and exhausting times of emotional crisis (err... well, that's a tiny bit exaggerated). But it paid off well, so that now I'm able to enjoy Nutella in moderation, without going overboard (well, most of the time, anyway).

Then when I was on that Nutella withdrawal, another thing just decided it needed to take Nutella's place and become my new addiction. Cereals. Jesus Christ, one would not believe it but I loved cereals back then so much that I can just eat cereals for days and not felt the slightest bit tired of it. I ate so much cereals that at one point, I gained weight non-stop and the pimples came back again. That's a clear sign of me having gone too far. I stopped buying cereals for months.

Another addiction I suffered was, compared to cereals, an extremely unhealthy one. I blame it on the then newly opened Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in my city. I've always loved KFC, but never was it anywhere within a city I live, not to mention just a mere kilometer away from my doorstep. So when people decided Gießen needed a KFC restaurant, my addiction to Hot Wings was like predestined. There's no way around it.

Lucky for me, my KFC addiction only lasted for a few weeks. And its extent wasn't as serious an issue as my previous addictions. Much more serious, however, was that time when I could not control my popcorn consumption. There was no night of the week when I didn't snack on popcorn in the evening, be it while watching a movie or studying for an exam. And the worse thing is, it actually helped me with studying. So I can't just say, "Stop eating that you stupid kid, it does you absolutely NO good!" Well, yeah. I don't remember how I freed myself from the controlling power of popcorn. Now I still eat popcorn regularly (I have a popcorn machine at home, for God's sake!), and it's of course a must-have when going to the cinema, but I do think I consume it now in acceptable amounts.

Sometimes, I really wish I didn't love food as much as I do. If I didn't, I wouldn't think so much about food. If I didn't think so much about food, I wouldn't waste an hour writing a blog post about how much I love food. And I wouldn't feel as guilty about this time wasted (when I could have used it to READ! Damn it!) as I am feeling now.

Anyway, the last thing I wanna say is, even though I'm not addicted to Nutella, cereals, KFC and popcorn anymore, I still eat them with extreme enjoyment. There're all my favorites. And now I'm adding this gem to the list:
